This is basically the cheapest LED Surefire light you can buy. That does not mean quality was sacrificed at all. This flashlight is bomb-proof.
I wanted a tactical light for home defense, but chose this light because I wanted to use it for other purposes besides blinding intruders. Because of this, the light does not have a tactical tailcap. On the tactical versions, you press the tailcap for a blinding light. Let go, and the light turns off. If you want it to stay on, you twist the end until it turns on. Untwist to turn off.
I knew this model didn't have those features; however, I can still accomplish the same goal. It just takes a little getting used to. On this model, you can press gently for the low power mode. Let go and the light goes off. Press harder to click on until you click off. Press again within two seconds for high power. And again harder to click on and off.
This is where you lose the "tactical edge". I was really hoping that the high power mode would be first. Even though it isn't, you can still train to get close to what you want. The instructions say click on and off, then again to get to high mode. You actually only have to push until the light comes on. You do not have push hard enough to click it locked on. This means instead of clicking on, off, then on again with three clicks. You can gently press twice(not far enough to hear the click) and very quickly get high power.
Just be careful not to press too hard to accidentally click onto the low power mode. With a little practice, it was very easy to operate the way I wanted.
Other than that, this "cheap Surefire" is an amazing light with crisp even light distribution and will probably outlast me.
