One of our Best Sellers! Based on PU Sniper scope design. This mount is constructed completely out of steel and screams high-quality. Designed to be permanently mounted on the reciever it will maintain its percision over years of rugged service. A special feature of this mount is its built-in windage and elevation adjustments. These provide a greater range of adjustments than the typical adjustments built into your rifle scope. This is very useful when your rifle scope adjustments are inadequate. The rings will accept most standrd size rifle scopes with a 1-inch tube and objective of 32mm or less. Instantly returns to zero after dismounting. The mount is compatible with most machined or stamped AK-47 recievers and is recommended to be used with fixed stock rifles only.

If your rifle came equipped with a side mount (tapered type held by two rivets) it must be removed and replaced with the included side rail that goes with this mount. Included in this listing is the mount side rail mounting hardware instructions and original box. New Old stock in factory new condition. Gunsmithing (drilling Receiver) is required.

I didn't buy this mount from Amazon because I didn't see it here at the time. However I do have this exact item.

General plusses:

1. Beautiful -- I've never seen a better machined or finished (blued) rifle accessory.
2. Rock solid -- IF you get it mounted properly the thing is absolutely rigid.
Also strong -- won't break as alloy mounts sometimes do on these rifles.
3. WIDE range of windage/elevation adjustment built in. Mechanically zero your scope before installing, use the mount adjustments for initial zero, and you have a perfect setup.
4. The Russian PU-style mount really does allow removal and reinstallation without rezeroing.
5. Allows mounting your 1" hunting scope PU-style. Because the rings are farther apart (3-1/4" over outside) than most PU-style mounts this is a better mount for such scopes.
6. Mount puts scope CL about 3" above bore; if mounted well back (mine is 1/2" from rear of receiver) cases will not hit a compact scope. Use of stripper clips for the SKS is likely to be possible.

Minuses:

1. Mounting on an SKS or (probably) anything but a stamped AK requires some skill, first to locate and then to drill/tap receiver, relieve stock, etc.
2. Directions are pretty useless.
3. Offset from mounting face (on receiver) to centerline of scope is correct for an AK but 3/32" too much for an SKS; not necessarily a problem but something to be aware of.
4. PU reproduction scopes with 1" tubes are too short for this mount. I don't know if a PU repro mount will interchange on this base. (Real PU scopes are 26.5 mm diameter AND too short.)
5. Because mount is tall you will not get a cheek weld to your stock unless your jaw is the size of a concrete block.
6. Check eye relief when choosing scope. Most modern scopes have 4-5" eye relief but with this mount you have only about 5" from rear ring to eye so with a short pull rifle (SKS are about 12-1/2") you probably want to be around 2-1/2 to 3" eye relief.
7. I was unable to find a current mfg. 4x20 (no front bell) scope in a compact size.
8. Heavy sucker. But no lightweight mount is going to be reliable on these rifles.

Odds and ends:
1. Side mount scopes on thin wall receivers can never be as strong as a good top mount on a Mauser-type action. A lightweight compact scope is recommended. There was a Red Star scope for this base but it seems to be gone. I'm planning to use the NCStar 2-6x28 scope.
2. With no cheek weld you'll have more trouble aligning your eye with the scope. A fixed power scope over about 4x would be problematic because of small exit pupil.
3. Space between rings is 2".

The only reason I rated this 4 stars instead of 5 is that it's a difficult install, with judgement calls for which the instructions give you no clue and gunsmithing-type work. However there IS NO easy scope mount for these rifles that's any good and this listing doesn't mention use on an SKS so you might feel I was too stingy.
