Well, let me clarify that. It is the first ankle holster I have kept. The first one I bought I shipped back almost immediately. This one is very comfortable. Almost comfortable enough to forget you have it on. Neat trick when carrying a 1911.
Don't be confused by the picture. This is NOT a holster for a revolver. This is a carefully molded leather holster that fits a compact 1911 (3" barrel). Also the picture does not show the upper support which goes around your calf just below the knee. This is also a Velcro strap with an adjustable Velcro strap running vertically down to the holster. This helps carry some of the weight and keeps the holster from flopping outwards. The snap thumb break is not adjustable but will easily snap in either the hammer down mode or in 'cocked and locked' mode. The sheepskin provides a comfort barrier between you sock and the gun. The quality is typically Bianchi first rate.
Wearing the holster I would recommend you have on socks that go high enough that the portion of the firearm that is above the holster is in contact with the sock and not your skin. Mainly to protect the gun from the oils and perspiration from your leg. As I said earlier, you almost forget the firearm is on your leg. The time you are most aware of it is going up or down stairs. My car is a sports car with a five speed manual transmission and I have no problems driving while wearing this rig. I haven't tried running wearing this mainly because I am at that age of not running unless I am being chased. A friend made the comment that if running was indicated I probably should be shooting instead. That may be a comment on my speed.
Drawing the gun does involve several steps that must be practiced with and UNLOADED FIREARM!!!! Kneel down as if to retie your shoe laces, pull you pants leg up, grasp the pistol grip and unsnap the thumb break (with you thumb obviously), draw the gun and cock/unsafe/chamber (your choice) as soon as the gun is no longer pointed at your foot. After you have mastered this action, go to your favorite range and practice firing from the kneeling position (why stand up and offer a larger target to your foe?).
Yes, this is slower that drawing from a good waist holster. But I only wear a waist holster during colder weather when I can cover it with a coat. At that point, this becomes a backup holster/gun.
My only suggestion to Bianchi would be to make the ankle portion about 1" longer so it would feel more secure over my jump boots.
I would buy this again and would recommend it to friends and students.
