GLOBE 24" BANTAM DIP STICK COMPLETE GREEN .pcGlobe Bantam Dip Stick Complete Skateboard (Green, 24-Inch) Review
Ive been skating for at least 5 years now and have 6-7 boards currently. I gotta say, for what this board is, an affordable starter board, it does it's job extremely well. There is another plastic board called penny boards, while those are cheaper (thinner), i like my board a little stiff, especially since it has no grip tape.let me break the value of this board down:
All in one- which is great, but usually means you are stuck with cheap parts, which for this board are only the bushings which are hard pieces of plastic (loosen the trucks a tad bit to cure or replace with new bushings like i did) that allow for minimal turn, and the cheap bearings which while wont allow for high speeds, still havnt rusted or seized despite being submerged and soaked, they are sealed so dont even bother to clean them, after a month or 2 of riding, just replace them with Bone reds or another high quality bearing. the wheels and aluminum trucks are sized perfect for the board.
deck- which is a durable hard piece of plastic. Surprisingly, I loved it, not only do i ride in the rain now, i can just hose it down after it gets dirty and dont have to worry about damaging the wood or grip tape. It has an acceptable amount of flex and im 175 pounds so it's actually pretty stiff. There is no grip tape, only a grip pattern engraved which for me is working out. One minor thing though, the deck is short, so get used to riding it for 20-30 mins before actually going places with it, once you get used to it, youre golden, I ride this to class mainly, and its a breeze to carry and store because of it's size. I have soo many complements because nobody seen a plastic board before, and because its mostly plastic there numerous color options. The plastic is stiff, and there are extra ridges on the bottom to further stiffen up the deck, all contributing to a highly durable deck.
Overall, this board is a tremendous deal, not only because of it's uniqueness, but because of it's potential in being a daily commuter, once you soften up the bushings, turning and skate around people and obstacles is a breeze, to me, it's the perfect on the go board!
the retail price of $110 is a little high, anything under $100, and you would be crazy not to get this.
There are some quirks that might turn off some people: its size (small) which is more of a "getting used to it" problem more then a preference, so if youve skate before, just try and take your time to get used to it, shouldn't be more than an hour.
and second is the grip tape, or rather, lack of it: don't get me wrong its still acceptingly grippy, but for some skaters who need a nasty amount of grip, they might find this a little slippery
caution: while this can pretty much be a "waterproof board", water can still get into the bearings and rust them, and to have the wheels lock up while youre moving is extremely dangerous, so please, exercise judgement. When cleaning, avoid having the water spray directly onto the bearings. Though so far, after months of riding with my stock cheap bearings in the rain, puddles ,etc, they still havnt rusted one bit, I have now replaced them with titanium bearings which dont rust (but the outer portions of the bearings which are just stainless steel still can so still be careful)
