ASICS Men's GEL-Exalt Running Shoe,Royal/Lightning/Black,10.5 M US Review

I planned to buy a new pair of Gel GT 2170 only to find that these got replaced (again) with a new version, GT-2000, for a higher price (as usual). Highly frustrating after many happy years using the 2150, 2160, 2170. So I checked out the other Asics shoes with Duomax system. Although Asics uses this system in many types they aren't identical. You can check by pressing the grey inside heel part (where the arch starts) with your thumb to see how firm it is. The firmer the better for pronating runners. This Exalt feels the same way as the old 2170. Next is the heel stability and shock absorption which you can check by pressing the sole on the back part of the heel. Also here I found that the Exalt is identical to the 2170; not spongy like the Phoenix. Front and upper part are more or less identical for most Asics running shoes: lighter structure than Nike and Brooks, so more for mid foot/heel runners. I'm using these shoes for running so colors are not relevant. After a few runs they'll be muddy anyhow. Last but most important: I did a quick 50 yard run in the store to check for comfort and manufacturing quality. Comfortable feeling so no problems (if you want to wear them right away you know they fit OK).
So, the Exalt sole is built for runners with somewhat higher weight with moderate to significant pronation and who can use good stability and shock absorption: Me (57, BMI 28, 9 min/mi, 15-20 mi/wk). The price is less than the new GT-2000, so my next 300 miles running will be on the Exalt. If they still are OK after a few runs I'll happily downgrade from the GT2170 / GT-2000 to this Exalt version and will buy a 2nd and 3rd pair.
Update1: I did three runs in five days, total 25 miles. I was surprised by their excellent shock absorption. Muscle recovery was also better than my 250mi 2170's. So I bought two more pairs and don't have to worry about running shoes for at least one year.
Update2: The DuoMax system on the GT-2000/2170 extends up to the ball of the foot so offers more support for heavily pronating runners. The extended Duomax also offers more stability than on the Exalt. I noticed this last aspect when I used the Exalt for a hike on a rocky mountain path. If you plan to use your running shoes 'off-road' you should try the GT-2000 (or buy mountaineering shoes).
