I have always had a hard time finding comfortable, well-fitting wide shoes for tennis (and before that, basketball) so when I find a pair, I order several pairs because they are constantly being discontinued. When I get down to my last pair, I start looking for new ones. My previous shoe was the New Balance 654. However when I ordered and tried on the 656, I immediately threw away the almost new 654 pair as the 656 fit SO MUCH better. Great job, New Balance! I immediately ordered more pairs to put on the shelf.I should also mention that I was able to go out on the court and start wearing them immediately without the usual blisters, raw spots, etc. that I'm used to with new shoes. I've been playing with them now for two months with no problems whatsoever. Two Thumbs up!
Be aware though that the red version has an altogether different construction than the blue version as you will see if you compare the pictures both on Amazon and the New Balance web site. My comments apply to the Red version with the full mesh toe area. I have no idea why they don't have a different model number than each other.
